ANTIQUE VIGNETTE STAIN~ A gorgeous tea stained look, similar to the effect of years of a prized collection. Adds a pop to the brightness, as well as a halo of vintage  tint.

SULTRY SILVER~ The mysterious look of old silver plate photography. Highlights are brought down and shadows slightly popped for a more monotone look.

VINTAGE GLAM~ Adds a subtle gradient stain to your image, a slight pop to the midtones and a beautiful greenish hue.

AFTERNOON SUN~ Vibrant color and contrast with lovely warm stain. Perfect for too-cool images as it will warm them up and give them a vintage charm.

DAY AT THE BEACH~ Wonderfully desaturates your image plus adds a beautiful bump in contrast.

ANTIQUE SEPIA~ Mimics the look of antique photographs with soft, milky highlights and deep low-detail shadows.

PRETTY IN PINK~ A vintage and feminine wash with deep pink tones and muted colors.

COUNTRY GIRL~ Perfectly subtle colors and a striking gradient tone. Highlights are stained with a warm, late-afternoon shade for balance.

ROSE PETALS~ Romantic rose-colored tint and lovely soft highlights. Midtones and shadow detail are preserved for the perfect vintage look.

ELECTRIC VINTAGE~Pumps up the volume with stunning contrast and color. A global warm tint softens highlight detail and gives a hue boost.

marketing materials for your studio (“wow” factor included)

Beth Dryer just sent us these gorgeous images for her new branding materials.

She writes, “I’ve used several different products from Design Aglow to create my studio branding.  I took ‘For Collectors of Art and Style’ and simply customized it for my purposes.  It really inspired my total brand!  I also added frames from the ‘Victorian Grunge Frames‘ set, and swirls from ‘Text Accessories‘ to create some fun frames as well as the frame for my logo.  The business card, thank you card and DVD case were all printed at WHCC.  The wrapping paper is from Target, and the ribbon and small blue box are from Paper Source.”

What a cohesive brand! We are loving all our creative shares lately, which bring so many of our templates together in the perfect custom presentation~

Ashley McCormick - Just beautiful!! Where did you get your box from? I have been looking for something like that FOREVER. Really, your marketing set is gorgeous

Beth Dreyer - Thanks Ashley!!! I forgot to mention the box! I got the boxes at Paper Source as well. I don't know that they come in bigger photo size, but those are perfect for the DVD cases!

Melissa - Wow, I just popped on here and immediately my jaw dropped! Bravo! Random wow note, how you tied your bow, so pretty.. :)

Mindy Beck - This is so beautiful!

boudoir branding with flair

Our share today comes from Shannon Phillips of Imago Vita Photography. Shannon used some of our most popular templates including Black & White Christmas cards, Classic Monogram Christmas cards, Victorian Grunge Frames, and Le Petit Jardin proof borders, to make a custom boudoir branding package.

Shannon writes, “After recently launching my boudoir division of my photographry business I wanted to make a lovely brochure and and gorgeous, yet simple offerings for unique boudoir products. I pulled out my design aglow bag of tricks and went to town designing a one-of-a-kind boudoir studio brochure. I used key pieces of several of your products and had them printed on WHCC pearl accordion cards. I also transferred part of my design over to a WHCC image box.

Then I chose to use the Le Petit Jardin proof borders for my sexy Finao albums. They give just the right amount of detail without distracting from the beauty of the image. Design Aglow makes my life so much easier…it looks like I spent tons of money hiring a graphic designer but really I just relied on you guys to do that!

This was the first time I have ever had a brochure printed. My business is purely word of mouth but this just took it to a whole new level. My clients show their girlfriends the brochure and spread the word about my boudoir photography. Thanks Design Aglow for making me look good!”

Dana Laymon - I love it! I too am launching the boudoir side of my business and this is a great idea! You're so creative to mix all those templates together- i think it looks great!

Liz - Wowzers these look FAB!! The black and white Christmas card works beautifully as a boudoir template. I love seeing these different ideas for marketing with Design Aglow templates!

AshleyAnn - Gorgeous. Gorgeous. Gorgeous. Love the mix of so many products!

Amy - Looks amazing! Love the use of all the products into one look!

TC - I wish I'm 10% that creative :P Love it!

Stephanie - I would love to find out where you found the background for this project, just beautiful!

get your clients inspired with canvas wall galleries

Heidi Peters sent us these terrific images of her studio display with six 11×14 canvas wraps and her layour from our Inspire Guide: Wall Display Galleries.

Heidi says, “The display shows a grouping of images, which clients hesitate to purchase without a physical example. It also shows off canvasses, which are also often outside of the comfort zone. Double win!

The display was created for my studio wall and was shot for the new version of my brochure. The brochure will also feature images of client work hanging in their homes.

Looking for a useful way to connect with your clients? I offered a $50 print credit on Facebook to any client who would let me come and photograph my work in their home. I had about a dozen responses in an hour — great buzz, a chance to catch up with clients, and a pain-free way to document my portraits.”

Good thinking, Heidi! And, thanks for sharing with us again~

Liz - These look great! I love that you've paired several 11x14s together and all in BW - it's perfect.

Amy - I love how easy it is for clients to visualize how it will look in their own home!

design aglow is seeking top talent (writers, graphic designers, stylist, blogger)

OPPORTUNITIES

At Design Aglow we are constantly on the lookout for fresh, unique, outside-the-box talent. If you have a passion for creativity and a desire to work with a growing company we would love to hear from you.

We are currently looking for writers and designers that can work as freelancers, but with the possibility to be promoted to full-time assignments.

WRITERS

We know you can shoot images, but can you shoot the breeze? Design Aglow is looking for a few amazingly talented writers to pen articles for our renowned magazine. We prefer a writing style that is engaging, quirky, fun, intelligent, conversational, yet simple, descriptive and easy to understand.

You must have the ability to interview, stay on a deadline, produce detailed, industry specific content, and produce content that is enjoyable and educational for the reader. Pay is competitive and our experienced team of professional writers boasts some of the best in the industry.

Do you think you have what it takes? If so, click this link and tell us more about yourself.

DESIGNERS

Design Aglow, a leading resource magazine used by universities and professionals alike, is always looking for bright new talent. Is your design style fresh, clean, elegant and modern? Are you well-versed in Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat and Lightroom? Are you looking to build your portfolio while working with a talented company of visionaries? If so, you could join our dedicated team of designers.

Potential designers must be self-starters, able to finish projects on a strict deadline, work independently, be creative and able to conceptualize new ideas, and be proficient in industry software. Please click this link and tell us about yourself.

STYLIST & BLOGGER

We also have an opening for a stylist to photograph new products at your own studio  in a creative and inspiring manner. You can use the designers link above to submit your information to Design Aglow.

And, finally, because my spelling and grammar skills are often less than perfect (you would not believe how many emails we receive to inform us of that fact), we would love some world class bloggers, especially photo industry peeps who can commit to 1-2 monthly blog columns (as our new photo craft contributor, Ms. Ashley does, see below).

Do you have a specialty that would fit into our beautiful little world here? Use the writers link above and tell us all about your fine self!

one-of-a-kind design inspiration

Our fun share today comes from Marci Lambert. Marci writes, “I used the background from Mr. Big with the photo frames and tape from one of the Charmed Life templates. I created this standout as a thank you gift to a local cupcake shop because I often meet clients there for consultations and I appreciate how welcome they make me feel. Their cupcakes are delicious and I find myself photographing them all the time!

I love the flexibility of Design Aglow templates. By themselves they are beautiful, but because they are layered, I find myself pulling a bit from this one and a bit from that one so that I can create one-of-a-kind products.”

Thanks so much for sharing your idea with us Marci….your gift certificate is on the way. We can’t wait to see what you create next!

Wiff - This is so cute! You were definitely thinking outside the box. Way to go.

Liz - Great idea and I agree with @Wiff, great "outside-the-box" thinking!

Pam L. - What a clever use of this product to make what I'm sure was a very welcome thank-you!

photo design project: get your iron-on

Design Aglow is THRILLED to welcome the fabulously talented Ashley Campbell to our creative team! Ashley will be creating a monthly craft design project here on the blog using her favorite Design Aglow products. In addition, she will be working her magic in our upcoming article collections too….so prepare to be inspired x2 starting right now~

From Ashley:

One of the things I love about the Design Aglow products is how they can all work together and the possibilities for creativity are endless. A super easy option for your Design Aglow design products is to combine them with T-shirt Iron On paper to create custom clothing. You could get crafty with your printer & iron for yourself or use the outcome for client gifts and marketing.

The first example I want to share is one I made for my son. I avoid all things white when it comes to him, so to start I used fabric dye to create a color that complimented the Almost Famous image I planned to use.

Step 1: Dye your shirt. I only wanted to dye one shirt, so I used just a bit of two dye colors and then added about 3 cups of water – just enough to soak the shirt (the photo below is before I added the water). Allow your shirt to sit until the desired color is achieved. I did not follow the directions on the bottle. Keep in mind that traditional iron on paper works best on light colors. You can purchase special iron on paper for darker colors if that is what you are going for.

Step 2: Create the image you want to place on your shirt. I used a photo of my 3 boys with the Almost Famous template. I then took that image and combined it with a section of Sweet 16: Fleur. I took colors from the wallpaper on the Almost Famous graphic for the Fleurs.

Step 3: Print your image on the Iron On paper. Remember you must flip your image before printing. I actually forgot this step, but since I didn’t have wording or graphics that would look funny, I didn’t mind.

Step 4: Iron on your image following the directions that come with the paper. Keep in mind you want a hard surface and no steam.

Your finished shirt. It looks best with a foam sword. This would make a great client gift. My son likes that no one really notices he is on the tv until they look closely. It is like his little secret.

Here is another example using the Art Graffiti templates. I did not want the bottom to be a straight line, so I mirrored the Art Graffiti and erased the flowers that would have pointed down. I used Blackout Serif for the font.

And another fun idea using the All Buttoned Up templates.

Customizing a onesie costs about $2.00 if you buy a package of several onesies and a full package of Iron On paper. Imagine showing up to a newborn session with a cute customized onesie for the tiny bundle of joy. Yep, pretty sure you would win those parents over. You could even punch a hole in your business card and tie a vintage button to the top when you present the proud parents with the gift.

About me:

Married to one amazing man and relishing life as a mom to four beautifully wild kids (girl 1 and boys 2, 4, 6), I’m a coffee loving girl. I’m currently spending my days buried in Legos, dirt, and crafting supplies with my photography business on hold. I write a blog, Under the Sycamore…it used to be a place to give my photography clients sneak peeks of their sessions….now it is something totally different. I was created to live on a tropical island, but somehow ended up in Oklahoma. I wish Mac would create a way that I could sit outside in the sun sipping sweet tea and still be able to clearly see my laptop screen. I am a project addict, so monthly posts using Design Aglow products in realms outside of their ‘intended’ purposes make me very happy.  – Ashley Ann

using our templates for custom iphone case designs

Stephanie Wiley shares her clever marketing idea with us today. She writes, “I have been making these iphone cases from getuncommon.com. I use the psd files from Glowlicious and Visual Poetry to customize the design for the clients and let them choose which photo they’d like to feature. I ask the client for their color preference and simply go from there!

These cases are a hard, protective case and are also a fantastic marketing tool because everyone loves to show them off. My clients are simply  thrilled with these covers! I’ve already had a few requests to let them know when the iphone4 and ipad covers come out.”

Thanks for sharing Stephanie. Most of our templates would make great iphone cover templates, just customize and crop!
